Chandler’s Restaurant opens.

(ca.) It is located at 335 Columbus Avenue. Willard “Newt” Chandler, a former railroad employee is chef. The club reputedly becomes a meeting place for members of organized crime figures, including a summit meeting called by Howie Winter, head of the Winter Hill gang, that brokers a truce and merger between the Killeen Gang and Mullens gangs of South Boston in 1972. Chandler goes on to serve as a cook at Tim’s Tavern, Lulu White’s and Chandler’s Commonwealth Grille.
